Lymphatic Drainage | Pregnancy Lymphatic | Lymphoedema Management
- Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the 24 hours leading up to your treatment to support lymphatic flow.
- Avoid alcohol and processed foods: Reducing alcohol, caffeine and highly processed foods beforehand helps your body respond more effectively.
- Eat a light meal: Avoid heavy meals immediately before your session, especially as some treatments involve lying down.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing: Choose soft, breathable fabrics that will not leave marks on the skin.
- Arrive with clean, dry skin: Please avoid heavy lotions or oils before your appointment.
- Expect increased circulation: Some clients notice temporary warmth, thirst or increased urination as the body begins processing fluid.
- Pregnancy clients: Pregnancy lymphatic drainage is suitable from the second trimester onwards.
- Lymphoedema clients: Please bring your compression garment with you.
Scar Therapy
- Allow full healing: Scar therapy is most effective on fully healed scars. If your scar is open, inflamed or less than 6 weeks old, please wait until fully closed before treatment.
- Remove silicone strips: If using silicone sheets or strips, remove them at least 2 hours before your session.
Post-Operative Lymphatic Drainage
- Follow your surgeon’s timeline: Ensure you have been cleared for manual lymphatic drainage before booking.
- Compression garments: If advised by your surgeon, remove compression garments at least 30 minutes before your session where possible.
- Stay hydrated: Adequate water intake supports lymphatic flow and reduces swelling.
- Avoid alcohol and salty foods: These may increase fluid retention.
- Pain relief: You may take prescribed pain medication before your appointment if needed.
- Wear loose clothing: Choose items that are easy to remove and do not put pressure on surgical areas.
- Dressings: If you have open drainage sites, ensure they are properly covered and bring spare dressings if required.
- Expect gentle specialist care: Post-operative lymphatic drainage is designed to be gentle, effective and supportive without causing pain.
